Arsenal set new club record with win over Manchester United

Arsenal achieved the historic feat with a 2-0 win over Manchester United at Emirates Stadium, their fourth consecutive league win over United for the first time.

Goals from Jurion Timber and William Saliba from set-pieces proved decisive in breaking down a strong United team.

Timber opened the scoring with a header over the defence from Declan Rice’s corner in the 53rd minute. Saliba scored the second after a deflection from Bukayo Saka’s corner.

Arsenal had previously recorded four consecutive wins against United when you take into account all competitions, one of which came in the Charity Shield in the late 90s. They had never done so in the league alone until now.

Manchester United achieved four consecutive league wins over Arsenal between 1951 and 1952 and between 1956 and 1958, while they won five between 1983 and 1985.

Mikel Arteta celebrated the historic achievement, saying, “It’s a very special night, celebrating 100 games against an opponent with so much history in this incredible stadium.” He praised the team’s set-piece success and defensive resilience as they held United in check throughout the match.

United’s Ruben Amorim acknowledged Arsenal’s superiority in set-pieces, saying, “We need to improve in many areas of our game, but we were controlling the game.”
