Car Falls into Bareilly Canal Due to GPS Error, Injuring Three

This is the second incident of misleading navigation system in Bareilly district, injuring three persons.

Superintendent of Police (City) Manush Pareek said the car occupants were going from Kanpur to Pilibhit when they deviated from the popular navigation system near Barkapur Tiraha village and fell into the Kalapur canal.

Police and municipal corporation officials immediately rushed to the spot and rescued three persons who suffered minor injuries, officials said. The car was pulled out of the canal with the help of a crane, they said.

On November 24, three persons were killed when a car fell into the Ramganga river from a partially constructed bridge in Bareilly. In this case too, police suspect that the driver was misled to take an unsafe route due to the navigation system.

Role of GPS error

GPS (Global Positioning System) errors are known to cause accidents across the world. These errors can occur for a variety of reasons, including poor signal quality, incorrect map data, or software malfunctions. In this case, the driver may have been misled by an incorrect GPS route, which led them to an area where the road ended abruptly, causing them to lose control and fall into the canal.

Rescue and Medical Aid

Rescue teams quickly rushed to the scene to pull the victims out of the water. The injured passengers, who were conscious, were rushed to the hospital for further medical care. Thankfully, their injuries were not life-threatening, but the accident has raised serious concerns about GPS safety and reliability.
